Perfect Balance

What is the perfect lineup? Is owning two big bikes really ideal? Let's face it, having two or more big displacement bikes is the dream to most of us. After all, who doesn’t want to wake up to multiple high-performance machines right? Having two or more of these isn’t all fun and games though. Big bikes aren’t practical machines and regardless of the type, a big displacement one will always be heavier and harder to lug around traffic making it a hassle to lane split especially during rush hours and especially for those of us who are vertically challenged. Wear and tear maintenance is also a huge factor. All motorcycles require some periodical tender, love, and care though not all may cost an arm and a leg, one thing is for sure, maintenance for a big displacement bike will always cost more than a small displacement one. No matter how much you baby your bike, the maintenance schedule listed on the manufacturer's service booklet is a must to make sure that your bike is road worthy and in tip-top condition. Having that said, unless you only ride on the weekend and have no plans on using your bike as your daily commute, then this option should be fine.

How about having two scooters? Scooters are practical and easy to ride. It's light and nimble which makes it the best-motorized vehicle to attack traffic in and out of town. It has enough storage options for most of us and if you need more, adding a top box won't ruin the scooter's aesthetics. One problem tho, most scooters are not expressway legal and those that are cost even more than some of the 400cc bikes available on the market. We get the appeal though it's a hassle-free twist-and-go two-wheeled vehicle with very comfortable seats. What's not to like, right? Regardless of brand, scooters will always give you a similar feel. Performance won't be worlds apart as they have similar technology and configuration which means owning two of these will probably bore you in the long run. If you plan on keeping only one motorized two-wheeled vehicle and value practicality over anything else, then a scooter will be the best option out there.

For us at RidingTwoUp, the perfect lineup is having one big displacement bike and one scooter or one small displacement bike. This way, you have one high-performance motorcycle to carve twisty roads on the weekend and one practical machine to use as your daily ride for a hassle and stress-free commute. Don’t get me wrong, you can still have fun on a scooter but performance will be a lot less than when on a proper bike and once you experience a faster motorcycle then scooters will be more of an errand bike than a fun bike. Sure, you can use both to do the same chores but it won’t be the same. Scooters will make your life easier but motorcycles will probably make it more fun.

Regardless of what you have, always remember to just enjoy the ride and to keep the sunny side up!
